When you think of a grandmother, you normally picture a kindly figure that  gives sweets to children and dispenses stories about times past. You don't normally think of a jewel thief.

But 75-year-old Doris Payne was exactly that for more than five years, half-inching gems, rings and other trinkets from stores around the world. She's currently languishing in the lock-up after being caught swiping an $8,000 ring from a Nieman Marcus store in California .

Now Justin Berfield – whose day job was playing Reese on Malcolm In The Middle , is producing Payne's story with writer Eunetta Boone. "We knew that her life story is better than most of the fictional stories manufactured in Hollywood ," Berfield told Variety.
